Why traveling helps with my depression
Approx. six years ago I was sitting in my living room watching the grey sky and the heavy rain hitting the window. It was a very quiet day and I think it was a Sunday. The depression hit me hard that day and I felt like there was no light at all in my life. I started to look around for a reason, something that could inspire me to see the light and why i chose to live this life. But I found Nothing. I remember that I felt empty inside and I couldn’t even cry. I started to analyse my life and the way i lived. There was nothing that made me happy anymore. I can’t explain why I felt this way, but I felt that there was something missing in my life. There was something I needed to do, I just had to figure out what it was. I started dreaming about a place where the sun shines and the palm trees stand tall along the beach. At that moment it hit me, I needed more in my life.
That’s when I decided to change what I was doing and follow my dreams and my heart no matter where it would take me. It took me on an amazing journey and I would’t change it for anything in the world.

A lot of doctors and psychologists states that traveling won’t cure your depression…. I agree, but I don’t.
I believe that my depression got better when I left and went traveling. I found a purpose in life and I felt an inner peace. I could finally eat, sleep and relax in my own body and I started living in the now. However I do agree that changing the surroundings might not change anything, because life will become a routine again no matter where you live and thats when depression normally hits.
However talking about my own journey and how traveling makes me feel is important to me. Traveling makes me feel whole and it inspires me to be a better person. It makes me appreciate what I have in my life. It has changed my perspective on life and what life really is about.
I believe that everyone has a unique purpose in life, it’s just a matter of finding it and following it. After suffering from depression a long time I have found my purpose in life. I want to inspire others to be the best version of themselves and to never stop believing that everything is possible no matter what.
You guys inspire me to keep going and I’m grateful for all the beautiful messages that I get every day.Â
