I was very excited to wake up this day because we had so much planned. We started the day at 7am and headed to Kebnekaise. Kebnekaise is the highest mountain in Sweden. The Kebnekaise’s highest peak is at 2,097.5 metres (6,882 ft) above sea level as of August 2014.

We never intended to reach the top, it was more about walking around in the nature and watch the mountain from the bottom. We decided to do a walk of 6 km. Said and done, we started walking and wow the nature was just mind-blowing.  After 3 km we reached a restaurant where we ate reindeer burger’s. It was probably one of the absolutely best burgers that I have ever had.

After our lunch we had to head back again since we had some other plans for the afternoon.

We drove for about 1 1/2 hour and reached our destination around 1.30pm. This was the highlight of the day and probably my best experience ever. We went to the IceHotel. I can’t even describe this with words, however if you ever end up going to Jukkasjärvi in Sweden you have to visit this place. Not ever the pictures gives justice for this amazingly building.

At 3.15pm we had an appointment to visit a sami village. Sami is Sweden’s aboriginal’s and they mostly live of the land. Of course now when our society has come to be more about money they also work to be able to survive. They are the only people in Sweden/Noway and Finland that is allowed to own reindeer and most of the deer’s live in the wild. We got to meet some reindeer’s and feed them by hand. It was an incredible experience to be so close and be able to touch them.

After the tour we got the chance to eat typically Swedish Sami food. It was thin bread with reindeer meat and lingonberry jam. We cooked it over an open fire inside a teepee tent. It was very good and I would definitely eat it again. Also have a look at the reindeer’s antlers. They are very majestic and I can’t understand that they can balance them on their head, I think that it’s very incredible.

This day was definitely the highlight of our trip, at least i thought so. I’m very happy that we were able to do all this in one day. After this we still had another 2 1/2 hour drive to our sleeping destination. We ended up camping in a forest next to a lake. On the other side of the lake we could see Finland and that’s where we headed the day after.
