How I packed my whole life into a suitcase and moved abroad
Wow, this was the hardest thing.. one month before I left I realised that I needed a plan. I wrote down a plan on how I could decide what to bring and what I should leave behind.Â

I started with putting all my clothes, shoes, bags and accessories out on the floor. (It was a lot). Then I started trying all my clothes on adding and matching shoes and accessories. While doing this I had a pile for NO, one for Maybe and one for YES. After trying everything on my pile for YES was still to big to even fit in my suitcase.
At this stage I had to be smart, would I need warm clothes (Probably not to many since Australia is much warmer). I did some research and realised that the weather on the Sunshine Coast doesn’t go under 7 degrees at night. This made it a lot easier, however I was gonna study fitness, so I needed fitness clothes for at least 4 days/ week. I quickly picked out my 4 favourite fitness outfits and packed them in my suitcase.
After this I had to pic casual outfits, so i though I will only need 4 casual outfits, said and done I picked my favourite outfits and put them in my suitcase. Then I picked another two outfits that was a bit more elegant.
Done, my bag was packed…. But now what!!
There was so many clothes left and I didn’t have a clue what to do, should I keep them or should I get rid of them. I knew there and then that I wouldn’t return back hime anytime soon. I decided to have a garage sale with everything I owned. I also had lots of home decor that I decided to sell.
I made another 6800Â Swedish crowns = Approx 1000 AUD. I decided to do something good for the rest of the things that no-one wanted to buy, so I drove down to a place called “homeless home” and donated the rest of my things to them.
I know that they got used well, because they sent me pictures whenever they decided to give away or use any of the items that i donated.
My bag was packed and everything i owned was gone, all I had to do now was to wait for the day to come. The day that I started my new life. When I got on the plane on the 25th June 2013 I was nervous, anxious but also excited. I wouldn’t change if for anything, but I do miss things back home now and then.
I know that a lot of people find it hard to even pack a suitcase for a week away, imagine all the people that decides to never come back and how hard it is to pack your whole life into one title suitcase
Have you ever done a major move, If so where and why? Share it with me, I’d love to find out more.Â
