Why some people make it and others don’t

It’s important to know yourself and the reasons you are doing things in life. If you live your life just to make others happy you have to think again. Your life is not yours unless you own it and start living the way you want. I know that pressure from family/ parents can be overwhelming, but at the end of the day, we can’t all be the same. Imagine if we feel in love with the same type…Gosh that would be messy…LOL, or if we all decided to have the same education and do the same work.. (I wonder how the world would look then).

It’s the same with traveling… Some people can experience a great deal of distress while others find traveling very therapeutic. People with a poor mental health can find it stressful both physical and mental and they find it hard to juggle flights, sleep, or the stress of where to stay or where to eat. Everyone can experience stress at some stage during travels but it’s particularly hard for people that live with mental health issues.

I can definitely relate to this myself and when I first went traveling I was going crazy, I was scared and nervous all the time because I stepped out of my comfort zone. There where nights when I stayed at my hotel room because I couldn’t deal with he stress. I didn’t knew how to plan my trip and I didn’t knew what to do and when. But on day I decided that this was crazy, I was traveling on my own and no-one else would make any decisions for me, so if I stayed in the hotel room nothing would happen. So I made myself a list…(Yes I love my lists).

  • Get a routine to get organised
  • Meet others and ask for advice
  • Stop being scared for the unknown, see it as a great adventure
  • Research
  • Live today not tomorrow

Said and done, I packed my bags and checked into a hostel with other backpackers. I meet so many people and got so many advice and I started living my dream. (To Travel). I did meet people along my journey that was suffering from mental health issues and they just couldn’t cope with the stress, so they decided to go back home. There is nothing wrong with that and I’m very impressed that they took that decision. At least they tried and they stepped out of their comfort zone.

After a stressful start to my journey of not knowing nothing about traveling I managed to survive for 9 months, and that’s a lot thanks to my little list. Only you know whats right for you, don’t let anyone take away your dreams or goals just because your mind is telling you something that we know is not true. There is so may people out there that is dreaming but never do anything about their dreams….Lovely people, live today because tomorrow can be to late.

Have you ever traveled on your own, and how did that make you feel? Share your story with us.

XOXO
