How I Turned My Life Around With 3 Steps.

No one ever said it’s easy, but it can be done. You just have to be persistent and focus on what you really want in life. I have spent way to many days and nights analysing and thinking about what I want to do and how I will get there. It’s frustrating and it doesn’t make you feel any good about yourself.

It’s okay if you don’t know what you want to do, just do something. I would lie if I said that I don’t suffer, because I do all the time. I struggle getting out of bed in the morning and I struggle with exercising. Things that people take for granted. What is seen as small steps for you is huge for me. Just getting out off bed in the morning is a big stepping stone. I look at my life and everything that I have achieved and I feel proud, but I also feel nervous about the future. Will I ever be able to do what I have done before or is this how my life will be forever now.  I’m stuck in my own body and I’m stuck in my own life, but we all are… It’s what we do with it that counts.

7 years ago I felt the same way as I do today. I used 3 steps to turn my life around. It wasn’t easy but this is how I did it and this is what I will do now.

  1. Focus on yourself and write down your dreams and goals – This sounds easy, but it actually took me 3 months to even figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. For 3 months I was sitting there looking at a blank paper without putting anything down. But then one day it just hit me and I started writing. Looking back at that day makes me smile, because the things I wrote down is reality today. The problem is that we always wan something else when we reach our dreams. I am never happy and I forget to appreciate the beauty of life and what I have achieved.
  2. Stop comparing yourself to everyone else – I know that social media makes it even harder not to compare yourself to people. But please stop doing that to yourself. The more you compare the more you feel that you are the weird one and that you haven’t figured things out yet. When I lived in Sweden I keep comparing myself to my friends that decided to have kids, get married and buying a house etc. This was killing me slowly, because I felt that I was far behind and that I had to sort my life out asap. However looking back at it today I realise that my decision was the right on for me. I don’t want kids and I wasn’t ready to get married back then.
  3. Do things that is out of your comfort zone – When I started doing this I started living. It wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. It was actually fun and the only thing stoping me was my fear. I was so scared of failing that I avoided doing things. When I left and went to Thailand I started realising that this is what I always wanted to do. I slowly started to find myself and started to love myself again. I started mediating and I even stayed with the buddhist monks for 1 1/2 week. This was an amazing experience and I wouldn’t change it for anything. I learned so much from the monks and I learned a lot about myself. Unfortunately when you go back to the “real” world you can easily loose yourself again. It goes fast to forget everything you learned and you will quickly loose yourself.

And this is where I am today… I have forgotten who I am and I have lost myself in a world full of expectations of how we should live our lives. I will find my way back, but I know that when you are in the middle of the storm the light feels far away. I know that together we can make it… Together we are strong. I have done it once before and I can do it again.
